Magic happens, when you read a book
That's what this is supposed to represent. I made it for the favourite author theme at Pretty Paper hearts. My favourite childhood author was Enid Blyton, and I have used a page from the enchanted wood (a copy I keep just for this purpose). The background of this has been through so many changes. I first edged it with vintage photo distress ink and stamped some skeleton leaves on it. but it was too brown, so I sponged some orange and green on, but then I didn't like it,so I sprayed water on it, which improved it, but still wasn't right, so I sprayed it with walnut ink, and then I finally liked it. As I used walnut ink, I am entering it for the Created by Hand challenge. I then did some random embossing, sponged some stars through star waste. stuck it to chipboard, edged in gold, etc etc
The collage image and stamps are all by Inka.
lovely Joanne. you've used that heart shape I liked again too. I think putting on all those different layers of inks etc has just added to it.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness this is wondemuse! … and I love your spooky background on you blog too! :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful Heart. Unique.
ReplyDeletethis is such a sweet, thoughtful piece. I too loved Enid Blyton and its so charming to have special childhood memories captured in this way.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous, Joanne. It has such depth and warmth to it. It was definitely worth all the inking it got!
ReplyDeleteJoanne, great job! I also like to read but didn't do much when I was a child because I was a tom boy and outside games were more entertaining.
ReplyDeleteThe heart shape is wonderful, too. As reading is, for me anyway, something that warms the heart.
Beautiful Joanne - I think the colours and tones are perfect!
ReplyDeleteyour heart could not be lovelier, all those steps paid off! the gold embossing is a wonderful touch and highlight behind that precious boy!
ReplyDeleteOh I'm so excited by this piece. Enid Blyton was always a favourite of mine growing up. We still have many patrons of our library who come in looking for Blyton books. A beautiful tribute to this author and to reading in general. I just had a look at your Chick Lit blog. The Kate Atkinson is a favourite of mine. I'm going to check out the others.
ReplyDeleteThe background colour is spot on and I really like the heart shape,it gives the piece that extra Je ne sais quoi.
ReplyDeleteNot only is this lovely, but some of your ideas are really inspiring, here! I love the idea of using a page from a favourite book, I hadn't thought of getting a second copy. I also love the star sequin waste, it is a brilliant effect. The overall piece is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLooks just right now. The secret is knowing when to stop and you got that spot on.
ReplyDeleteThis is SUCH a lovely piece, great layered look!
ReplyDeleteOh this is beautiful - I love everything about it. All those different applications certainly paid off.
