wednesday stamper - colouring

These 4 ATC are for a swap with the theme The Elements.
I decided to combine the challenge with this weeks wednesday stamper and show how changing the colour can change the whole feeling of a piece.

I used several colouring media. The stamped fairies were coloured with pencils, each one in colours to suit their element, the wings were then given a quick coat of twinkling H2O.
and they were cut out (unfortunately they lost there antennae at this stage!!)
The base is canvas on chipboard, painted with a solid colour of acrylic paint and while the paint was still wet given a dusting of perfect pearls on the edges.
The backgrounds were then painted in acrylic paint according to their theme.

something a bit mad!

this weeks tag swap theme is black and white.
I've had this idea for a while that I'd like to have a go at a stamped "doll" like the fanciful whimseys from stampington. when I first saw them. my first thought honestly was "yuk" followed by "what's the point? its the kind of thing you can do yourself with a bit of masking and imagination."
so out to prove my point I thought I'd have a go for this weeks tag.

I now know that it's a lot harder than that. This took me ages , this was attempt number 4 and even this has smudges!!!

I won't be doing it again!!!

so whoever gets this in the swap, first I hope you don't think I've lost the plot completely!!! but at least you know it's a one off unique piece!! lol

oh, and I know the thimbles on the feet look like hooves, which is a bit scary, but hey ho!!

yes I know I haven't done H or I yet, but I just got these new stamps from paperartsy and I was playing with grid stamping. which I was inspired to do after reading Is's book

tag notebook

I've been neglecting my blog for a couple of weeks, real life has been taking over a bit, but things are settling so I should be back posting normally.

I made this notebook for deb as part of a tag swap.

it all sort of came about from the art tag I made a little while ago. It occurred to me the "chipboard" base would make excellent notebook covers, so I made a tag shaped notebook from scratch. it contains a load of plain white paper cut to the same shape.
I then used paperartsy stamps and adirondack ink for the colour

G is for.......

well I thought and thought about this one. I was going to do glamour, right from the start, then I decided I liked G is for girl and I was going to use a pretty vintage picture of a little girl, then I thought I'd done that with the tag book and wanted something "different" so in the bath I was mulling over the girl theme when I started humming "just a girl" by no doubt (humming because I can't sing) which gave me the title, so then I wanted to show what just a girl could do. originally I thought of the women working in the factories during the war, then this idea came to me.

art tag

this week's tag theme is Art. I used it as an excuse to try out these new flourish foam stamps. I decided to make a really thick tag, so I used the back of a loose leaf pad, so it's basically the same as the chipboard shapes you can buy, and I glued canvas to the front. it produces a nice "weight"
then I just used acrylic paints and stazon.

I'm still in a sea mood after the inchie, so when I needed to do an ATC for a stamping swap. I decided to use this sailor stamp. which just makes me want to sing:
"A sailor went to sea, sea, sea. To see what he could see, see, see......."

this time the theme is the sea. I've been looking for an excuse to use this sea horse stamp for ages.

there! I can finally justify buying it!

E and F

gosh, it's a while since I posted. I have been creating, but you know when you just think your stuff isn't good enough to show the world, well I've been a bit like that.

These aren't any better, but I thought since I'd started with the alphabet, i'd better keep it going.

so we have E for elegance, and F for friends.

inchie

I am hosting another inchie swap. this time the theme is wings. you'd think when you set these challenge you would know straightaway what you are going to do, but no. It took me ages to decide, but for once it was because I had too much choice. butterflies, fairies, angels, I even considered an owl
in the end I was swayed by the little words from the paperartsy plate "wings 4". The "little angel" words were just the perfect size. so I combined them with part of the stamp from the same plate. a couple of random stars, and a bit of glitter on the wings

tag book

This is for yet another challenge. to make a tag book with 5 tags with a vintage theme.

I find such an open theme quite hard!

so, first stop art-e-zine! that inspired me to use the pretty little girtls, which made me think of the song "thank heaven for little girls!" which very handily has 5 words, on for each page. lots of buttons and ribbons later!
ta da!

the background paper is all papermania, but I've toned it down with tea dye distress inks! a huge improvement I think!!!!

wednesday stamper - butterfly

it's well known I love to use butterflies, but I thought I'd do the wings on child thing (sorry galina) for this thing. I've had this paperartsy stamp sat in my collection for ages, so I thought I'd get some use out of it. I changed the wings though, they just weren't big enough!!

to all the lovely people who left their kind wishes on the post about my dad. They meant so much to me. Also people who have contacted me directly after seeing it.
I have also received some of the most beautiful heart warming cards, which I will treasure.

and Penny and Deb have also proved my theory that purple and butterflies really are suitable for any occasion!!

another day - another tag!

this tag is for a weekly tag swap. this weeks theme was "oriental meets western europe" and I have to say I had sort of decided I wasn't going to take part as I couldn't think of anything.
Then I was browsing the geisha gallery on art-e-zine when the inspiration hit.
and now I'm actually really pleased with it. I think it just sort of works!!


The images are art-e-zine, and the background is downloaded from canon origami. (that particular paper is Fuji-mon.

just when you think it's going so well!!

I was asked to alter a jigsaw piece for a blue themed jigsaw. I had just been talking about the paper artsy nudes on here and decided they would be perfect for this. I got busy and made this


I was really pleased with myself and smugly finishing off the ribbons when I suddenly spotted the "this way up" arrow on the back ....

fortunately the girl it is for is very understanding!! and has taken it as it is, (but has promised me she will let me do it again, if it just looks ridiculous!!)

tag for nicole

I'm doing a long tag swap with my friend Nicole the one she made for me is on her blog and it's beautiful.

it is 7 inches long. I've use the shap I always use for tags just made it a bit longer and thinner.

goodbye dad

my dad passed away late last night. he died of lung cancer after smoking since he was 12. I have this photo of him and his dad, which I think is really cute. so I copied it and made a simple card which I am going to send to my sister.

happy valentine's day

here's the amazing card my husband made for me. I don't know what to say. I'm gobsmacked!
he's drawn and painted it. I had assumed he'd copied it, but I've just spoken to him and apparently he just used one of our son's toys as guidance, but otherwise he made it up! and apparently it took ages!
